lol I am happy that they will be relasing every 6 months. Just keeps is GW-er's to keep going. Even if Factions was not as good as Prohecies, does that mean C3 will be worse as well? no.

Point proven

ok....

1. You don't have to buy the new chapters

2. Nothing is required to play the new chapters... play at your own pace

3. Nobody ever said that each new chapter would give us 2 new proffesions 3 new guild halls... etc... In fact, I think I remember people saying that this would not happen.

Uh.. no, not really. They don't have the money to afford gw without a job

All up, while I'm currently wondering how I'm going to finish factions in 6 months, I'm also aware that 2 of my characters have finished the cantha missions and in theory, I'm ready to start on chapter 3 and factions hasn't been out that long.

Factions is great. There are some minor flaws but the positives are so much better. For me only 240 skills left to unlock out of the 326 in factions and i havent been really focusing on that. Chapter 3 will be great too - the main thing i love is the new skills.

one year is definately long enough for development when the engine is already there and all they need to add is a few more minor updates thoughout the year.

Only minor gripe - promicing things that dont end up getting put into the game.

I'm Pretty sure (but dont have the quote), that it was mentioned somewhere by a-net that each new chapter would bring 2 new professions. Anyone back me up on this?

Yes, I remember this being a hot topic multiple times during early discussions of Chapter 2.

I think 6 months is too little time, development wise, to be releasing entire $50 expansions. All it sounds like to me is that they want money, at the expense of quality. BUT, do not quote me saying that I know for a fact C3 will be crap cuz it's released in a short amount of time, cuz I don't know, and I hope C3 is full of new and wonderful content, but I just don't think it's enough time to create a lot of new stuff.

For the people who said 6 months is enough time to get through all the content, yes, you can easily get through the story of Cantha in the 6 months, even casual gamers can agree to that, but there's a lot that is often out of reach of the casual gamer, such as items(15k armors, green items, etc) that are more difficult to obtain, and can take a lot longer to get. So the casual gamer now has to decide to either continue trying to get that full 15k suit, and get left even further behind, or they can stop pursuing that goal to play new content, and for me at least, it's a hard decision. This summer I won't have much time to play, so I'm feeling the worse side of this whole short release deal, because I not only have to get a job *grumbles* but I also have to study for the next year of school *shakes fist at schooling system*

I think the people who conquer the game, get all the items they want, and all the titles they want in the 6 month period need a life. I don't mean it as an insult or anything, but you could be out doing something other than wasting away the summer inside in front of a computer playing a game(such as, wasting away the summer inside in front of a computer MAKING a game...see...one word change makes you seem like a better person )

But seriously, I think ANet is going to make GW a lot worse by doing this, because there will be a huge distinction between the people who play a lot, and therefore have items from all sorts of difficult areas, and then there will be people who can't obtain those items because they're too busy catching their breath after getting the basics of each chapter completed.

I really love this thread, maybe the best thread ever. Some of us got other things to do other than play GW, and I can easily get a whole year out of faction 6 months isn't enough, if you want to do more than just complete the game...

I dont see the problem... They work on a chapter for 1 full year then release it. They have 2 teams working on theese projects, so they can stagger theese new games on a 6 month time period. A game under production for a full year is plenty of time for a team of good develpoers to create a good game. And since all theese games are stand alond, theres no need to buy all of them. You can buy them at your own will, and play them as you wish. If you want to play factions for a full year, then wait to buy chapter 3. As for me, there's still things I like to do in prophecies, and I play them both all the time. It's fun to be able to play the same game, but have so many options as to what i'll be doing.

I think the reason the development cycle is much faster is because the core coding is in there and the graphics engine.

All thats really being done is making new maps, making new models, textures, designing new missions, quests, stories, etc.

They are in a hurry because frankly...players get BORED VERY QUICKLY (see the thread complaining abuot how fast the game is). I dont know about you...but since i work mon-fri, i can only do missions on weekends. Right now my Canthan monk is only in Dragon's Throat. Most of my guildmates beat the game at least once already. Im gonna enjoy my tour of Cantha.

HOW MANY TIMES DO PEOPLE HAVE TO BE TOLD BEFORE IT FINALLY SINKS IN THAT IT IS NOT 6 MONTHS WORK ON EACH CHAPTER BUT 1 YEAR WITH 2 TEAMS ON A 6 MONTH CYCLE?

ALEX WEEKES FROM NCSOFT

There's two dev teams at ArenaNet working on staggered 12 month schedules to give the 6 monthly release windows, as mentioned. C3 was started back in November, and is already advancing quite well.[/

every 6 months. Its quite fast, but dont forget we got some small expansions for free in Tyria. We had the Sorrows update with the new area's and the Battle Island update, but that was a preparement for Factions.

System update will be nice. I have a lot of lag in factions. Im looking forward to C3 but first let me finish Factions

I think by putting out 2 a year they are going to force people to choose one or the other
I had to respond to this...

I go to school full time and work 20 hours a week. My fiancee goes to school full time and works 40 hours a week. We both found plenty of time to play Factions. I had it done within the first week and a half...
Still slept 8+ hours a day.
And oh-no... for those of us in school, we have something called summer vacation. Sure, I'm working 40 hours a week during it, but I still have all night and all weekend to play if I so choose.
Not enough time for an expansion? Please....

SO... if you played a traditional MMO like WoW you would be happy to pay $14.99 a month only to have new content every 1.5 years?

As long as ANET keeps the quality high I am all for every six months... this game has REDUCED my spending on games... cause its the only one I play anymore.
I think Factions is a bigger "expansion" than WoW's Burning Crusadee in all honesty - and it came out a lot sooner.
BC - Two new races(very little impact on overall gameplay), a new "continent" (no idea how big it is), and a few new dungeons(which are relased for free as it is now)... oh, and now you can grind-quest to level 70. Yay!

Factions - whole new area (large), two new professions(big impact on overall gameplay), tons of new skills, 13 extra missions with cinematics and voice acting(ok... I'll admit, some of the voice actors sound like community-college drop outs - Danika, I'm looking at you :\)
